Oops - Bought another domain name! Earnhardt Jr. in the 88 car!

Hi All -

Being a HUGE NASCAR fan here in the Carolina’s, it is only common sense that I am often looking for inside info in the Nextel Cup series. Someone asked me a few days ago where I am able to find the insight to think of domain names and the truth is… I just watch what goes on around me!

The rumor mill is flying off the hook with people guessing what car number Dale Earnhardt Jr. will be driving next year!! He has taken a place in history as one of the most marketable sports icons in the industry will likely remain that way for many years to come. I can almost hear the buzz from my small office… :-)

A little birdie came to me (OK it was Kim) and told me of some news she got in regard to his new number… it WILL BE the number 88 and he will have Pepsi products on the car. (Pepsi, Mountain Dew, AMP energy drink etc) That is good news… now what to do with it and why the heck am I writing about it?

First - you may recall I bought/sold a domain name around Jr a few months ago - www.freethe8.com - I purchased it on a Sunday afternoon during a race from GoDaddy and sold it less than 2 weeks later to an entepreneur for $1000, a very good investment indeed.

Hoping to jump aboard that same bandwagon, I ran to my PC as quick as possible when Kim told me the news and registered www.Earnhardt88.com with the same hopes of a quick turnaround! The difference this time is that I placed a BANS store on it yesterday to immediately beging the index process for the name/number combination.

All being considered… I will either sell this domain for a nice piece of change or end up with a very good souvenier site.

This is awesome and almost to the level of a parable on smart web marketing.

When people ask me how I get my ideas, I tell them all I do is open my eyes and look around, then have to disregard 99 percent of the ideas that come across because of a lack of time.

I got to tell you getting that name is going to help pay a good part of the college fund soon. I would hold out for a bit on it!
