Long Weekend - and a new Build a Niche Store Release!
September 4, 2007 | Author: Mark | Filed under: Everything Else
I dont know about the rest of you - but the Labor day weekend was a welcome break from life for 3 very short days! We made our annual trip to Kim’s sisters’ house for a weekend of friends, fun… and yes, plenty of beer!
I was welcomed home with a very anticipated email from Adam, one of the developers of BANS! Version 2.0 has been released and is ready for production! I have been sitting on a few domains for the past 2 weeks awaiting the arrival of the new release and installed a new store last night in the usual time of less than 10 minutes!
Directly from the BANS forum:
Below is a list of new features:
1. A WYSIWYG HTML Editor has been incorporated into the store and
content page areas so you can develop great looking pages without the
need of knowing ANY HTML.
2. A new page ordering system has been created to allow you to
re-order both your content and store page navigation. 3. A new multiple delete feature has been created to allow quick
stripping of unwanted categories and pages.
4. A choice of 3 product layouts are now available inside your store
‘Setup’ Area so you can test different product layouts and
conversions.
5. A new Min and Max bid facility has been added into the search
engine.
6. SID affiliate tracking has been included so that you can tell what
page or search query was used to bring you a sale/registration.
7. 9 new CSS template layouts have been created which will provide
you with a professional store design that you can easily customize by
uploading a logo and editing the CSS colors.
8. Sites built with v2.0 are now valid XHTML 1.0 (perfect
coding)…you will see an increase in speed!
9. AND…You can now create a Custom Store based on Multiple
Categories!
Being limited to ONE category has always been a downfall with
previous versions of Build A Niche Store…Now you can start with a
blank canvas and quickly build your own custom store based on
multiple category choices…this should really open up what you can
do with your store(s)!
Example Custom Store:
1. Start with a blank canvas
2. Include the Motorcycles for sale category (6024)
3. Include the Motorcycle Parts category (10063)
3. Include the Motorcycle Apparel category (34352)…
Your store will now contain ALL of the motorcycles for sale, parts
and apparel categories making it much more specific to the Motorcycle
niche.
At this point it appears the installation/upgrade is running without a hitch for most users switching to the new version! You have to commend Adam and the entire Build a Niche Store forum, they have taken a very good product, listened to the voices of their users, and made changes to accomodate several product enhancements!

Stumble it!

Hey Mark,
Are you upgrading your existing stores to 2.0?
jp
At this point, I am only going to push out new sites with 2.0.
Once I see the results and have a comparison to the old, I will decide then.
I think I’m going for the upgrade on my site, since it’s new. I’ve had some forum discussion with Adam about it.
The frontend php mod I did to change some category link order will be overwritten, but 2.0 will allow me to address that anyway. As for the colors & look of my site, that was all mostly temp anyway. I’m telling you all this because my site is up for your review soon– and it’s still in major flux.
