AuctionAds Observations

July 16, 2007 | Author: Mark | Filed under: Tool News

So… I was all excited about using AuctionAds and wrote a few snippets of code yesterday to read the keywords we enter into a product description and have those keys automatically push into the javascript AA uses to pull in relevant auctions.

Well… it seems that AuctionAds may be having server issues - not sure! I have the generic loaded onto one website, and the dynamic code onto another. Both sites are experiencing load times that are just a bit too long for my liking. 10-15 seconds on a 25k page will have users running for the XX-Close button.

I wont write it off yet - I have sent in an email to ShoeMoney (The genious that runs AA) to find out if it is on my end or theirs, but pinging the auctionads domain returns long lags as well.

Stumble it!

You won’t get a reply from Shoemoney. They are swamped and we are all suffering from their server problems. Growing pains, I guess!

I figured as much - I did get an email back saying they are all over it! Everything seems back to speed this afternoon.

Mark,
I had used Auction ads on 25 sites for two months. After two months i had a total of about $5 in revenue. It seems the only problem they have, besides server downtimes, is that you can put whatever keyword or phrase you like for search, but it will only serve on your site whatever AA wants to deliver. Therefore, it is totally useless, and i have ceased to use AA in the last couple of months…..they are worthless in my opinion. It is like using Amazon for keyword delivery….sounds nice, but if you set up Amazon to deliver frog artwork, for example, it customarily deliver computer parts, accessories…Same thing with AA………

Ted -

I have not seen a whole lot of success with auction ads yet myself, but I am only pushing the ads on one specific domain right now, which is still only 2-3 months old.

I did find a way to get page-relevant ads versus the canned ads that are served up though.

I have the site up with an asp content listing system, essentially, it my trusty old ecommerce applpication, modified into being a product reviews site. I add one product each week to try and keep it fresh.

In the product addition section, I have a keyword field that is used as a variable for AA ads. Declare the keyword variable when the pages are called to display, then before displaying the auction ads, I insert the keyword variable into the javascript.

I would venture to say it works good about 80% of the time, the rest of the time I see iPod and iPhone ads.

The website is www.meetthegoods.com

Hi Mark;

Have you checked out Chad’s (BANS user ‘Arrow’) Niche Words software yet?

It allows you to place any eBay listing on the BANS content pages. I use it to put ads with different keywords (and even different categories) on one page.

Austin.
