Monetizing Domains - Its a Project for Sure!

Whew - after a couple days of not updating our progress… wait, I had a good reason… Anyhow, after skipping a few days, I decided to come by and let you all know what has been going on! I have learned quite a bit over the past few days, even made a mistake or two that I hope to learn from in the long run.
First and foremost - it all takes time! We didnt think we would come into this and immediately start seeing ads clicking off the hook. The 5 year plan, now just 2 weeks old, is on track and will definitely take awhile to get fully implemented.
This week, we setup 3-4 publisher accounts at different places.
- Google AdSense Free to join
- WhyPark Domain Parking (With a twist) $99 / 100 domains
- AdBrite Free to join
- GoDaddy Cash Parking $107.80 / Yr - Unlimited domains
- Azoogleads Free to join
In addition to joining these programs - we now have more than 400 domains in our portfolio. Do the math - at an average of $8/domain, we took a big bet on this and dropped almost $4,000 on domain names alone! I would venture to say that roughly 350 of them are part of our target website audience, Real Estate Websites - each being developed to deliver a minimum of $1 in advertiser revenue every day of the week. The remaining domains were picked up for their names value… for instance, we were able to find that only 30 or so 4-letter domains were left in existance… this took Me more than 4 hours of going through word lists and attempting bulk registrations in both .com and .net extensions. There were NO .com addresses available, but about 30 with the .net extension.
So - Why did we grab the .net 4-letter domains? We ran them through a generic little Domain Appraisal web application at www.leapfish.com One of the domains was www.wuds.net. Sure it sounds like nothing to you and I right now - but since there are only 30 or so that were not registered - why not! Run over to Leap Fish and type it into the domain appraisal tool… or click this link - Now you know why we jumped on them! We realize that this online tool is not too accurate, but after knowing that only 30 names were left in existence, we figured there may be SOME value to it…
OK - I am gone to write some measured results for the week - see ya soon!
